Learning to learn in a MOOC – sounds like a nice course offering. Many MOOC are more structured and facilitated, less learner-directed, than what was originally proposed by Downes, et al. Some of that is because MOOC developers are limited by institutional requirements for protecting student privacy, and/or by their own comfort with directly controlling student outcomes. “Real” MOOCs are very messy – not surprising with 10,000s of participants, each with their own needs, expectations, resources and skills in self-directed learning in an online learning environment.
